I have now worked out the framing and shot types i would like to use in my music video and the timings of these for my story board:
Framing and Shot Types:
o Opening shot: Artist in centre of frame – close up then fade to black
o Then zoomed out to show dancers in a group behind
o Shot from higher up showing performance from above
o Shot from left showing performance from side
o Partner work
o Poses
o Tight and loose groups
o Big and small groups – growing in number
o Colour and black and white scenes
o Zoom into artist from large group
Timings:
o 1- Opens with “Put it on” – start black then flash up opening shot of artist then fade back to black (repeat 3 times)
o 2- Main singing starts at 7 seconds and this will be the shot of the group of dancers
o 3- 24 seconds first chorus starts “could you please just turn the music up” (up at 26 seconds) – dancers point/signal upwards
o 4- 2? seconds in “dance floor” – performers lower/drop to the floor
o 5- “give me what you got before it’s too late” 38 seconds in – performers turn as if walking away as the shot fades to black
o Then flashes up with shot of all the performers dancing much more energetically to the chorus
o 6- 54 seconds in “I just wanna dance” ends chorus and dancers will strike an individual pose each then fade to black
o 7&8- Flash of a shot of just the artist swaying/shaking hips to the beat (1.00)
o After this there will be a smaller group of dancers- artist in centre and one either side(total of 3)- 1.00
o 1.03 in 2 more will appear ( 1 either side- total of 5)
o 1.07 in 2 more will appear (1 either side- total of 7)
o 9- Another verse until 1.27 – shot of dancers from above and 10- from left showing their performance
o 11- At 1.36 dancers turn to back again as if walking away before chorus cuts in the same as above.
o 12- Chorus ends at 2.14 and the beat of the music slows down slightly and it is a little less energetic. At this point the dancers to strike an individual pose each at 2.14, 2.18, 2.22 and 2.26. This will be shot and framed simply to maximise the effect of the performance.
o 13- The music continues to be slower until 2.41 and in this time the dancers will be dancing in pairs. This will be framed with all the performers at first and zoom in towards the artist and her partner towards the end of the shot.
o 14- The track goes silent and then says “Dj…put it back on” and at this point I will have a close up of the artist possibly winking.
o There will then be another chorus the same as above.
o 15- The video will then end at the end of the chorus with zoom in and close up on the artist.
o 16- I will then either have all the dancers relax and laugh or they will all fall to the floor or it will be very simple and just fade out. I will film all three and then decide which is best withthe help of my focus group.
I now need to check that these timings are 100% accurate and that the shots i have chosen will work before drawing up my story board. The numbers e.g. 1-, 2- are the position each shot will have on the story board and the numbers 0.05, 2.41 represent the time in minutes and seconds which each shot will appear.
